Hester Bateman, heroine of this tale, worked silver and learnt her trade so well she became a master silversmith. According to the book she was dyslexic, though that name was not in use, and she had trouble even marking her initials on her work.

I really enjoyed learning about silver working in the Georgian era and I was delighted to see a woman's work being valued so she could rise above the general roles for women at the time. Hester was also a fun character and she was determined to succeed having found her calling. Possibly only in London could she have become a silversmith as there was money and ordinary workers enough, while specialists were needed and could be well equipped.

I recommend this as an unusual romance and personal history.
